Library to Media Center Transformation

Last spring when we learned that the library would have a bit of a different purpose in the fall of 2015 we decided to make a few changes.

One of the first things we did was add casters to the bottoms of some of the bookshelves that are up on the stage area.  This allows us to move the stacks when we have presentations or larger groups for meetings.

Over the summer we took out some of the wall mounted book shelves and had this white board installed.  In the fall we had the wall mounted interactive projector installed in the space.  This projector is equipped with Chromecast for easy projection from any computer.

We also made this quiet reading corner for children to sit and enjoy a book.  We re-positioned the carpet from another part of the library and moved the bookshelves on the right to enclose the space a bit.  In the future we would like to add casters to the bottoms of these shelves as well, so they can be moved for flexibility.

This fall we also added this Lego wall.  All the green board pieces were purchased through a grant from DonorsChoose.  The children have enjoyed working with classmates to create and build on the wall.  IMG_3563.JPG
Our building has just adopted the IRLA reading program for our 1st-3rd graders.  The idea of leveling the books by color was brought to us from our reading specialist.  We have set aside 5 tubs for the IRLA.  In the future we hope to color code all the books in the library so children can easily find books at their appropriate level.

This is just a start!  Check back for more changes in the Media Center.
